E, are you reading 新選組血風錄？ I did some online research years back after I went to the cinema for Gohatto. Has been following 士道 by 高橋努, one of my fav Jap comics creators. The background of the story is set in the end of the Shogunate period. In fact, some 新選組 members appear in the comics e.g. the young 土方歲三(Kitano's character).
